How posters work by Juan Diaz

  • Start a new blog post called “how posters work”

  • Write a reflection (100 word minimum) for each poster that

    • summarizes her reason for including the poster in the lecture

    • how it might impact your own poster design

The poster work "The Simpsons by Albert Exergian is an art work that I like for its simplicity and straightforwardness. This work can impact my own spread as I can make a simple prison cell or people protesting outside of a cell to show a call of action. The reason she include this poster is because we as people have a set idea of an image or design we can reference to. In this case this target the main protagonist in the series, Homer Simpson with his M shape hair on his side. Doing a basic idea of a big problem can help people understand the issue at hand.

WW2 propaganda is a poster design that I love as it gets straight to the point and show the unnecessary dangers people and soldiers go through to fight. This can impact my poster  design by showing more danger and action than words. This will allow for people to better understand the situation for my topic. The reason she chose this topic is because it shows a lot of emotion and tone about the situation of the war. It shows how bad the situation is in the midst of the war. Furthermore it puts ourselves in the perspective of the soldiers and the people trying to survive.

The poster design "Competition for lighting" by Yusaka Kamekura is a poster that shows positive and negative space. This poster also works with lighting as people don't really see a black light bulb or have though of one. Although simple this also allows for other colors outside of the bulb to be made and to stand out more. This creates contrast.

This World War 2 poster by the Office of War is used by Ellen to show the importance of item or stuff when their placed in the middle of a poster. This created the main point that people show wasted less resources during the war to give to the soldiers. This picture is also on a angle  allowing to show a sense of drama and action. This can help me as I can use angle to create more drama and action within my poster.

This poster design of Edward McKnight Kauffer called Oxhey Woods was a poster that was included by Ellen because it allow people to enter the scene. The use of the path in his work gave people a chance to enter a story and be apart of. This can help my own poster design as I can make design that can put people in the shows of prisoners in my social issue topic. This will allow them to create their own thoughts of the situation around them.
